Crowning Glories

Wilhelmina House, Croydon

We very much enjoyed our return to Wilhelmina House, which is a Dutch Home for the Elderly in Croydon (our last visit was in November 1998).  As the concert took place very close to the date of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, we felt that the programme should be of  "Songs of Royalty, Loyalty and London, in celebration of Her Majesty's Golden Jubilee"!

It was, in fact, rather a sad day to be performing such a programme, as the morning brought news of the death of Princess Margaret.  However, we felt that, as the Princess was an enthusiastic patron of the arts, it was appropriate that we continue with our tribute as a celebration of her life, as well as the Jubilee.

Wilhelmina House does not fund-raise on its own behalf, but enjoys our visits to entertain the staff, the residents, their friends and families; they ask Chimes to pass on money raised to an appropriate cause.  We have donated the £150 raised to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, in appreciation of our ability to hear and perform our music.
